"AMSEL: ILLUSTRATOR OF THE LOST ART" poster

2016

Digital and photographic elements.

I created this "teaser" poster for my documentary from different elements. As no known photos existed of Richard Amsel painting behind a canvas, I created one from a headshot, Photoshopped onto a body double, who wore one of my turtleneck sweaters that was at least 2 sizes too large. The color and lighting effects were added digitally, as well as replacing the canvas and easel. A sepia tone was added, along with a diffused background and layers of grain.

A self-portrait of Amsel as a teenager provided evidence that the artist was left-handed, so the model mirrored the pose for the photograph.
